How to Shop Smart Anywhere
For most people, the majority of the money they earn goes to relatively fixedexpenses: rent or mortgage payments, car payments, other debts and various bills. And there are ways to save money on many of these expenses: shopping around for abetter interest rate on loans or conserving energy in your home to save on bills. But one of the quickest ways to save money is on the things we shop for.Anytime you open your wallet, do not you want to be sure you have a great price? Next time youare ready to make a purchase, large or small, try one of these tips tosave yourself some cash.
Know what a good price is for the product.
The internet is the best tool for this job. Before you go to make a purchase, especially anexpensive one, do a little research into the average price of the item in questionand find out what you get for the money.
Do not automatically buy the cheapest option.
Depending on the product, just plain cheaper may not be better. Take life insurance or car insurance for example: is not it better to get some feedback and compare before youpurchase? Talk to friends or read reviews about what you are buying. Buying thecheapest version of the product might save money now; but when you have to replaceit because it does not do what you need it to, or because it was a bad product and isbroken, you would not have done yourself any favours.
Make phone calls first. No one likes driving from storeto store checking the price of crab legs, for example. You are likely to settle forthe price at the first store, if it sounds reasonable, rather than searching out thebest price you can manage. Why drive all over town and spend too much when you canmake a few calls and guarantee yourself a good price?
Order online. If you do not need an item immediately, check prices for ordering online. Sometimes you can order something new at adiscount or find it used for a great price; just do not forget to factor in the costof shipping. The internet is the ultimate place to price compare: you can checkprices everywhere from large chain stores to online sellers to small businesses withthe push of a button. Use that to your advantage.
Seek out small businesses. If you frequent a smallbusiness, they are likely to get to know you, appreciate your business and help youwith tips or advice, such as when there will be a sale or what item is your best buyon any given day. Small businesses are also more likely to encourage returnbusiness with discounts or giveaways.
Do not forget coupons. Businesses love when you come tothem because you have a coupon, but forget to actually use your coupon. If you havea membership card at a business that may give you a discount, do not forget to useit. If you brought a coupon with you make sure to remember it at the check out.And try searching online for coupons to print; just try not to leave them at home onyour printer.
No one is saying that you should research each item on your grocery list beforeheading to the store, or that you should profoundly contemplate the pros and cons ofvarious brands of pencils. But you certainly can shop smarter when it counts justby being aware and checking on your options. Do not throw away money you could save!
